First thing I did was close the tavern, which apparently pissed a few people off but at least some of them got back to work. Then I built a study (office) for the manager, so that things would get approved quicker. Seemed to make a difference. You need a diagnostician set up in a hospital zone to diagnose the dwarfs, then you can see the injuries they have and if they have been sutured/splinted or not by other healthcare dwarfs. At the start of my new fortress some dwarves got injured in a cave-in and I assigned them quickly to beds and a hospital zone in the middle of a hallway. I eventually built an actual hospital with the necessary tools near them, but I can't make my dwarves move them at all. I even took away their beds, but they just rest in the hallway forever ...
