Mobile service was able to fix it in about 1.5hrs. The rubber pads above the lower tailgate had worn the exterior layer. The underlying layer was gummy and the door was sticking on the bumper. Technician had to take apart the inside of the lower tailgate to get the top to release. He adjusted the upper tailgate, and shaved some of the bumper.

It fits as well as I could expect for something not made specifically for this truck. Straps cinch down well and the whole pad feels solid. The tailgate opens and closes like normal with the spring loaded gap cover thing rolling right over the tailgate pad.

I don't begrudge Rivian this, but I'd rather they address other related issues, like being able to disable the auto-down tailgate when accessories are in the hitch receiver.
