It is however a more challenging creature to fight than the usual raptor/carno. It's just another creature, pointless? only if you think it's a boss and go in with that mindset/expectation.

On the other hand just having enough health and a healing skill seems to be enough. I dropped Strategic Reserve for testing (so no health regen to speak of). My character has 35K health and about 20K resistances with Vigor. The boss dropped me down to about 40%. One Vigor afterwards basically restores your health.
