I went ahead and started the basic challenge -> saw that NUMBER grows rapidly -> did a quick rebirth to see what it does -> now, the NUMBER is stuck at 1, and the rebirth time factor grows very slowly.

Yellow can be nice for challenges because of the gold drops and red for when you're sniping or idling zones because of the dc, I think brown, green, orange and then grey pink and rainbow when you unlock them are keepers for sure. I dropped blue as well, but I can see how the NGU bonus might be useful at different stages.
