Edit to Add: Just spoke to my brother on the phone, he has a collection of older Marlin 39-39A and he says on the older guns, the firing pin falls out when you remove the bolt.

My son has a Marlin 39A that my father bought new in 1946. Yesterday we went to the range, and the rifle fired one round then stopped. Further attempts to fire leave not a mark on the case rim. I imagine the problem is a broken firing pin. Not being a lever guy, I thought I'd come here for info.
