No passcode needed. When posting a quest there’s 2 options yes or yes request join, just click “yes” your friends can still join the hub quest without randoms joining mid way through. Wifi is finicky on the Switch in MHR. Try switching between 2.4 and 5 signals for wifi. Mine works better on 5 GHz and on 2.4 I have that problem fairly consistently with MHR. No multiplayer issues on other games using 2.4 so something is rise is buggy. If your router doesn't have 5ghz connection then it is probably time to upgrade.
The entire join request system is stupid. They had something good with mhw and threw it out the window. What are the chances 3 different people going to be looking to join some random HR Lagombi quest I posted? We should just have a list of all quests that have a join request sent out, and we can just choose which quest we want to join.

It was so frustrating because then we'd be stuck hunting alone for at least 20 minutes since none of us could feasibly solo scaled up monsters fast.
