I use a cheap oil around my fingers before applying acetone soaked cotton and my manicure clips to help mitigate the drying effect. Opi nail envy and jojoba oil.

Like it was said already, cuticle remover, or a Russian manicure, so using a flame medium drill tip you can eat right through the cuticle. I feel you, but at least for me it was my own mistake of gnawing the gel off every week. Am on month 2 now and halfway through it. False tips with those nail 'glue' strips that you can peel off are my saviour for events where I want them to look nice.

I also used nail strengthening polish, and painted my nails with coloured polish frequently to discourage chewing. I found that covering up the stubby bitten bits with colour stopped me from focusing on their irregularity and biting more.

You don't swipe it on quickly. You put a nice head of it on slowly. This is the finish topcoat so you want it nice and smooth. Nothing fast with nail polish is ever smooth so do this slow and steady. It's dry to the touch in a few minutes and indestructible in about 30 min.
