First minted in 1979, the Susan B. Anthony dollar honors the 19th-century American social reformer and women's rights activist. Designed by Frank Gasparro, the obverse depicts Susan B. Anthony facing right, surrounded by 13 stars. The inscription liberty appears above, with the date of issue below and the motto in god we trust at right. The standard weight of these coins was 125 grains. Due to the coin's similar size to the Quarter, it was badly accepted and eventually withdrawn. No coins were made for circulation from 1981-1998.
