I think i know your problem. It’s really ridiculous and never explained anywhere but you need to first pair and then you need to press each key on the controller and write down the letter or number that comes up. That is what needs to be mapped - not the actual letters / numbers that are on the controller.

Frequently I have an audio file or YouTube video playing in the background, or a text file that I switch back and forth between. With ONE being linked with ALT TAB, all I have to do is press ONE and then I'm at that program.
