The recon and marine armor provides better protection on the arms and legs it seems, so I guess the bonus is less damage to the extremities. Edit: someone pointed out on another thread that each layer is calculated separately, so basically it comes down to better extremity protection, along with one big roll vs two smaller rolls.

Recon armor are an end game armor choice for those that really care about movement speed. It is the favored armor for some of the best streamers who play on 500% (Adamvseverything). The numbers don't lie. However, you should probably stick with flak vest and duster until your colony is way better.If you just care about protection, Marine Armor definitely offers the best. Other armors can get pretty close, but not all the way there and are lacking the native rad resist. But, it's pretty damn heavy being twice the weight of combat or leather armor. It also lacks the shadowed mod which can be helpful for stealth characters.
